The Bulls Eye SealCoat 1 gal. Universal Sanding Sealers are designed for interior use on wood, cabinetry and hardwood floors. The oil-based formula cleans up easily using mineral spirits and can cover an area of up to 600 sq. ft. for your convenience. The sealers dry to a clear matte finish helping enhance the natural beauty of wood.
Pre-Mixed Shellac
Zinsser is the only consumer seller of premixed shellac in the US. One final note, if you plan to top coat your shellac with some other finish, you MUST use a dewaxed shellac under oil based poly varnish or any waterborne acrylic finish. In other words, only SealCoat can be used under poly and waterborne poly.

Zinsser used to claim their shellac would be good for three years. A lot of woodworkers said it was closer to one. When I used sponges, even though they claim to be 80, 120, 180 grit, the wood did not take the stain. Then apply a thin coat of Zinsser 854 diluted 1:1 with denatured alcohol with a brush.

Shellac (Zinsser products)
Shellac is a well known and frequently used treatment as a barrier coat to odors associated with wood. When alcohol evaporates, it leaves no residue or odor. Try putting the Sealcoat on a paper towel, let it dry and see if you detect any odor. Do the same with the alcohol.
